Christie Kamphuis

Christie Kamphuis is the co-founder and director of bettercup, an Australian company that manufactures locally made reusable bar cups and provides a range of consulting and onsite services that eliminate single-use waste from major events and venues across Australia and New Zealand.

Launched in 2016, bettercup has worked with numerous renowned events, brands, venues and festivals, diverting millions of single-use cups from landfill.

A circular economy advocate with a specialist interest in plastics and designing out waste and pollution, Christie’s sustainability enthusiasm stems from growing up on an off-the-grid eco farm in rural New Zealand.

During 2020, Christie led the Global Reusables at Events Hygiene Project as part of her leadership team role with the Sustainable Event Alliance, bringing together event industry, health and safety and sustainability stakeholders from around the world. In October 2020 the Reusables Hygiene at Events Best Practice Guidelines were launched to provide events with evidence based information and practical ways to ensure the safety of reusable systems.

With almost a decade of marketing and technology project management experience, a business degree majoring in marketing and design and postgraduate qualifications in IT; Christie brings strong business acumen and experience into the event sustainability space.

Alongside her business partner Samantha Stone, Christie has won multiple Business Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship Awards through her work with bettercup.
